My research areas include soil organic carbon turnover and soil organo-mineral interactions. I use natural isotope labelling techniques to determine the mean residence time of the soil organic matter and to separate the different sources of the CO2 efflux from diverse types of soils from Hungary. Carbon turnover time is not just an important indicator of soil organic matter dynamics but it is a key parameter in coupled climate−carbon cycle models, therefore the accurate estimation of the turnover times of soil organic matter is important for the better understanding of the climate−carbon feedbacks. I also combine natural isotope labelling techniques with the physical fractionation of the different soil organic matter pools to get a more complex and accurate picture of the dynamics of soil organic carbon decomposition and sequestration.
