In September, a new university lecturer joined our Department!
From the first of September, a new university lecturer will be working in the team of the Department of Environment and Landscape Geography. Dr. Gusztáv Jakab comes to ELTE with extensive teaching and research experience. Gusztáv Jakab graduated as a biologist in Debrecen, and obtained his PhD and habilitation at the University of Szeged in the field of Earth Sciences. His area of expertise is Quaternary climate and vegetation development and plant macrofossil studies (e.g. seeds, tissues), and in recent years he has mainly dealt with medieval environmental archeology. He is a researcher with wide interests, in addition to his environmental history investigations, he has also published numerous publications on nature conservation, plant geography, zoology and landscape history.
His research topics primarily concern the area of the Great Hungarian Plain and Transylvania. He also has extensive GIS and remote sensing experience. His popular writings and nature photos are regularly published in ’A földgömb’ magazine, but he has also published several scientific books and photo albums. His social media page also has a lot of followers.
At the Department, he will primarily participate in the teaching of GIS, nature conservation, landscape ecology, and biogeography subjects, as well as be involved in ongoing paleoecological research.
